Board of Education Candidate Filing Procedures

The Columbia Public School District is looking for community members who would like to serve as a Board of Education member. There are two (three year) positions available.
Filing will take place at the Neil C. Aslin Administration Building, 1818 West Worley Street, Columbia, Missouri. Candidates may obtain the official candidate filing packet of forms and instructions in advance from the Board of Education Secretary.
Candidate filing dates are as follows:
Candidate Filing opens: December 5, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.
Candidate Filing closes: December 26, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Filing on December 5, 2023, is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. without appointment. Filing for the remaining filing period will be accepted during regular Central Office business hours by appointment. On the last day of the filing period, December 26, 2023, the District will accept filing by appointment prior to 3:00 p.m.; walk-ins will be welcomed from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. It is recommended that Candidates filing on the last day should arrive by 4:30 p.m. to make sure the filing process is completed by the 5:00 p.m. deadline.
Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy by 4:00 p.m. on December 5, the order will be determined by random drawing. The names of those filing on December 5 will be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on later dates.
Board Candidate Workshop: December 14, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
This workshop is informational for those considering running and have questions or would like additional information about becoming a board member. A Board member will lead this session and give tips on what to expect for those interested. The meeting will be held in the board room on that evening. Come join us.
